So you’ve been working out for a few months now. You finally got over the ten-day hump and have been keeping up with your fitness routine. You wake up at the crack of dawn, you drink your protein shake and head to the gym. Nothing can stop you now. Who cares if you downed a whole sleeve of Oreos at 2 am while watching reruns of the bachelor? You don’t let that discourage you, because you’re committed. You’re an athlete. A jock. A lot of things come with the title. An improving physique... increased energy... glowing skin... athlete’s foot? Jock itch??
Athlete’s foot is caused by a  group of diseases known as tinea. Athlete's foot is caused by a number of different fungi, including species of Trichophyton, Epidermophyton, and Microsporum. Infection occurs after someone comes into contact with infected skin or fungus in the environment. Jock itch is caused by a fungus called Tinea cruris. Ringworm is caused by Trichophyton, Microsporum, and Epidermophyton. These fungal infections are all caused by fungi that thrive in warm, dark,  moist environments and can all be found in your local locker room and gym.
It is of the utmost importance that you change out of your gym clothes after working out and ensuring that your sneakers, socks, and clothes all dry properly. The sweat from your feet can make your sneakers moist and make them a breeding ground for fungi. Other less obvious moist environments include the armpits and groin. Remember to never share towels, gym shorts, or other items that can carry foreign bacteria.
